Racial Justice, Equality and Diversity (RJED)
Scripture teaches that all humans are created in God’s image. In the Gospel, Jesus ministered to everyone, regardless of their gender, race or status. In the early Church (Acts 10:24-25), it was established that ‘God does not show favouritism but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right’ and St Paul reiterated this when he stated ‘for you are all one in Christ Jesus.’
Respect and love are key elements of our school mission statement. Respect forms the basis of our expectation of behaviour and ensures that our children are respectful, tolerant, courteous and have a strong moral code. Every person is made in the image of God, so we ensure our school is an inclusive, caring community offering equality of opportunity for all.
We are a catholic school, but we welcome and embrace children and staff of different faiths or no faith. We believe people choose to work here, and parents choose to send their children here, because we have a reputation of not only academic excellence but of being a school who cares for and respects all pupils, staff and parents/carers.
And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them.- Luke 6:31
Prayer for Racial Justice
When our eyes do not see the gravity of racial injustice,
Shake us from our slumber and open our eyes, O Lord.
When out of fear we are frozen into inaction,
Give us a spirit of bravery, O Lord.
When we try our best but say the wrong things,
Give us a spirit of humility, O Lord.
When the chaos of this dies down,
Give us a lasting spirit of solidarity, O Lord.
When it becomes easier to point fingers outward,
Help us to examine our own hearts, O Lord.
God of truth, in your wisdom, Enlighten Us.
God of love, in your mercy, Forgive Us.
God of hope in your kindness, Heal Us.
Creator of All People, in your generosity, Guide Us.
Racism breaks your heart, break our hearts for what breaks yours, O Lord.
