Online Safety

Please refer to our Online Safety Policy and latest E-Safety Newsletter.

We have a responsibility to educate and protect our children when they are online, particularly as there is increased emphasis on home learning.  St Thomas of Canterbury School aims to support you in this.

The following information contains guidance and information about websites that can offer further support.

Stay SMART!

The SMART rules can help us stay safe online.

SAFE:

Keep safe by being careful not to give out personal information (like email address, phone number, bank account or passwords) when you are chatting or posting online.

MEETING:

Meeting someone you have only been in touch with online can be dangerous.  Only do so with parents permission and even then only when they can be present.  Remember online friends are still strangers even if you have been talking to them for a long time.

ACCEPTING:

Accepting emails and messages or opening files, pictures or texts from people you don't know or trust can lead to problems - they may contain viruses or malicious messages.

RELIABLE:

Someone online might lie about who they are and information on the internet may not be true.  Always check information with other websites, or trusted contacts.  If you like chatting online, it is advisable to only chat with your real world friends and family.

TELL:

Tell someone if you see something that makes you feel uncomfortable of worried or if you know someone is being bullied online.  You can also report anything suspicious on the 'click CEOP' button on their website.

Parent Info:

Please see the attached guide to a range of information and online resources offering advice and guidance to parents and professionals.
