Pupils Lead the Way in Sustainability

At St Thomas of Canterbury Catholic Primary School, the Eco Council, led by passionate pupils, is helping the school become more environmentally friendly while encouraging care for God’s creation. They organise regular litter picks on school grounds and in the local area, keeping the environment clean and safe. Following a successful non-uniform day fundraiser, the school has introduced new recycling bins to improve waste separation and reduce landfill.
The Council also led Walk to School Week, encouraging pupils and
families to choose sustainable travel and appreciate God’s creation.
To further reduce waste, they launched food composting to enrich
the school garden and placed reminder signs in classrooms, prompting everyone to switch off lights and interactive whiteboards when not in use. Through these actions, the Eco Council continues to promote sustainability and environmental stewardship.
